question about michael kelley patriot glory

i was in love with the trans black patriot custom until i saw the patriot glory. but a big sell for me were the direct-mount pickups on the custom. on the description for the glory is says direct mount but it looks like it has pickup rings.

anyone know whats the deal?

yeah i was hoping the pic lied! maybe i'm being stupid but for some reason the direct mount thing made me think "POWER! AAARGH!" when i was playing that custom at a random Sam Ash. does it really make that big a difference? i'm sure in the long run pup rings are better for maintenance and pup swapping. would hate to have to fill some holes due to pups moving around or something

maybe i'm trying to reason my way into buying a glory...help me see straight! :boggled:

personally i dont think direct mount vs pup rings makes a dang bit of difference. some might argue but i say no, no difference outside of appearance

Dunno man, I just like the direct-mount look better, that's all.

The Michael Kelly site says they're direct mount but these pics don't agree:

Either it's a mis-print or they used photos of a prototype and the production models are indeed direct mount.

I'd say go out and play them both side to side and see whether you can tell a difference and which you like the best.
The way I see it the Glory is a Custom with some more bling

Now, if only the freakin' ships would bring our local dealer's order to us, there's a good possibility that there's a Premium with my name on it :firedevil

i like nifty neck inlays. but some are just waaaaaay over the top. then it just looks tacky

After looking around the MF site for other Patriots, it seems that Michael Kelley uses rings on some and direct mounts on others. They probably just do a cut-n-paste job with the descriptions.

As far as the difference in sound? I don't think it's a big difference on solid body electrics, then again sometimes I can't hear my cell phone ringing when it's in my pocket...who am I to judge?
