this is sabbath's paranoid as many propably know

anyway when i play it the hammer parts don't sound nearly as strongly as in original

should i release my finger from 12th fret before hammering the 14th
when i keep my finger on 12th frets and hammer the 14th the sound isnt strong enough

so im not sure which is proper way :thumbsdow

Re: Question about paranoid

If you want to. Or you could hit the e sting a little softer, and try to hammer a little harder (not too hard though).

I often dont play other peoples riffs exectly the same, I put my own touch in to it.
technique will come with time.

Try the riff on the 7th and 9th frets of the A and D string, and you'll get more of the string to sound out, and you can let the e string ring out too..

Re: Question about paranoid

Like this...

Code:
---------------------------
---------------------------------
-------------------7h9-------7h9
          7h9-7h9-7h9--7h9------7h9-----
          7---7---7-----------------------
          0---0---0-----------------------[CODE]

Re: Question about paranoid

With practice your hammer-ons will become stronger. You could just keep your index finger planted across the bottom three strings and just practice hammering on the notes on the D and A strings. If you do that for awhile your fingers will feel the burn and you can increase your stamina/hammering strength.

Re: Question about paranoid

Most Sabbath riffs can be played in at least a couple different positions. For what it's worth, Tony almost ALWAYS plays them as high up on the neck as possible.

Re: Question about paranoid

You wanna hear it even more crushing?

Try adding a lower fifth.

Code:
--------------------------------
--------------------------------
-------------------7h9-------7h9
7h9-7h9-7h9--7h9------7h9-------
7---7---7-----------------------
7---7---7-----------------------

Yup..thats how I do it usually. Thats how Randy played it with Ozzy FWIW.

Re: Question about paranoid

easy way - finger pick with your 2nd and 3rd fingers and your hammer-ons will be stronger. i have another cool idea for it too, use a slide with power chords. you won't be following the tab exactly, but it will sound cool and different.
