I don't see any reason why a player couldn't do what Peter Green and Wes Montgomery did with thier neck humbuckers though: Just turn them around so the slug coil is closer to the neck.

I agree. My objection to that is simply based on aesthetics, nothing else. If you can make it look good and work at the same time, why not do it? (I'm a victim of my occupation, I guess :laugh2: )

btw - Its amazing what you find out when you read Seymours Q & A's.

I've always wondered why the Duncan schematics split humbuckers to the stud coil. Right there it is in Q #71, which basiclly states that the adjustable screw pole pieces extend down through the bottom plate, shifting some of the magnetic field below the pickup - away from the strings. So, the stud coil tends to have a stronger field, and a stronger signal than the adjustable side.

And, going along with that, there's Q #101: To quickly give a humbucker a single-coil type sound, just remove the adjustable pole pieces. You have effectively "turned off" that coil.
