Question about standard sized pots and mini's..

Does anyone have an opinion on any difference in quality and / or the performance of mini pots vs the standard sized ones? I'm planning of doing the Jimmy Page wiring on an Epi Sheraton and will have to go thru the F holes.

I've done work on a Sheraton, I used dime sized pots and push/pulls. It's easier to get a dime sized pot through the f-hole, but then their smaller size probably makes them somewhat more difficult to maneuver once inside (more liable to flop around, not stand up straight, are further down from the mounting hole).

Regarding the quality of either, for me, their failure rate, or how often they need to be cleaned, has been equal. Here's a semi-entertaining, informative video about how awesome old Gibson pots are that, if nothing else, dissects pots. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dSgUfJIxGlc

IMO, most of the differences between various pots in general are immaterial to performance. They'll say one has a thick strip, but if you never wear out a thin strip, what does it matter? Even the expensive pots are open to air and liable to attract dust and whatever else. I don't know why closed, air tight pots aren't a thing with guitar electronics. It mostly comes down to whether you want easy spin, or resistance in the spin, and there are both quarter and dime sized pots with either characteristic. I think a lot people just assume bigger is better, or more expensive = better, that hasn't been my experience with guitar pots.

Go for the minis...

I've used them in a LP and love them - I have room to solder.

Conversely my Dot has standard size pots and I HATE trying to get the blighters back into position. Fat fingers you see...

Good info, thx to all. I'll most likely be going with the mini's. I'm going to take some measurements this weekend but being that I will need to stuff 4 push/pulls thru the F hole, if the mini's are of the same quality and performance, then so be it.
