Question about the dimebucker.

I just bought one and noticed something bad about it right after installing it..

it seems that you cannot use it with a guitar that has a pickguard!

let me explain. most pickups have those long extended metal tabs under the pickup, right? well this one doesn't.. they're right on it.. meaning i cannot under any circumstances raise the pickup to the height it should be at on my gibson SG. with the screws screwed in all the way so they're almost busting, the pickup is still like half an inch from the strings. what the heck can I do? I can't take the pickup back either, store policy doesn't allow that

any help would be much appreciated

sorry I feel i should explain some more. it's like this because the guitar has a fixed bridge and an angled neck. so the bridge pickup has to be raised quite a bit to be near the strings. i'm guessing this pickup is just incompatible with this kind of guitar :(

Ghwar, try using pieces of surgical tubing instead of the springs. You can also cut the springs with a pair of wire cutters.

If you live in the continental U.S. you can return the pickup directly to Seymour Duncan under their 21 day return policy regardless of what the store policy is. You need to call ahead and get a R.A. number (return authorization).

I live in canada unfortunately.

worst comes to worst, i can go buy a cheapskate dean ML to put this in or something, lol

but i really hope i can get this installed somehow or get it exchanged for a duncan distortion or something maybe

I had thought any country had similar laws, where if you bought something that isn't suitable you can take it back at least for an exchange.
Have you even tried asking the shop? Why not phone them and just ask them to swap the pup for something that fits - and ask them for their advice. I can't really see them refusing and putting off a future customer.
