8.75k, wow mine only measures 8.2k.

one of my fave Pearly Gates measures in at 7.9k, and yes, its labeled as a bridge pickup.

Re: Question About The Pearly Gates Plus

I find that my PG+ balances well with the SSL-2's in the N&B. 250K pots.

Guys, use them low-K PGb's in the neck! I love my 8.00K PGb in the neck (the bridge is a 8.35K PGb and they work real good).

Now that's an interesting idea. I've done the '59n in the bridge pos before and loved it, why not the other way around. boy I've got some experimenting to do in the next couple of weeks. Magnet swap in my PG+ to a PG, may as well try it in both positions. '59n to an A2P with a magnet swap. Ah....the gears are turning.......and let's not forget that Hybrid '59/CC of John's that I'm borrowing. Whoo hoo!

I like the 7.9K PG at the bridge. Lots of punch with clarity. I do use a 8.4k PGb at the neck of my Carvin though. It matches up very well with the CC at the bridge and it makes a 24 fret neck thru super strat sound like a Gibson at the neck.

Re: Question About The Pearly Gates Plus

The weird thing is that it is quite difficult to find non-custom shop duncan neck pickups that measure 7.80-8.10K. Some would say they get muddy, ok but the custom shop pagey sets have a 8.20K neck if I remember right. I had quite a hard time finding a hot neck antiquity (7.75K) for example. Thanks to John (from blackrose) I did find one in double cream! :beerchug: Anyway, I think 7.40K and lower is too clear for me. I'd play my strat for them tones.

JumpMarine, check my signature. I matched my 8.75K PG+ with a 8.10 white PGb in the neck. A2 gave tones a little bit on the muddy side, so that's why I changed the magnet to an a3. It opens up the tone, and helps the eq separation. But still, overall the tone is quite similar to the a2. Great clear tones. And the strat neck length helps!

On the other hand, I am using 8.00K PGb of mine in the neck of a 24 fret hand made, set neck, maple cap mahongany body (ebony fretboard) custom H/H tele. That is why in that guitar like Benjy_26 I am using the stock a2. Because the natural tone of the neck position of that guitar is already bright, and not like the one of a 21/22 fret guitar. ;)

When you see double SD humbucker Fenders, they're often a Pearly Gates Plus and a '59 neck. We worked with Fender to develop a special wiring for this combination. In this case, the magnet of the '59 neck is flipped (reverse polarity) relative to other Seymour Duncan pickups.

Evan, what is the reason for the reverse polarity? I have this combo in my Fender Showmaster. In fact all this time I thought I had a '59 bridge and a PG+ neck, like the Fender site says, but I just took a look at the bottom of the pickups and I have a PG+b and SH-1n. It sounds very good except for the nasally honk in the middle position using both pickups-is this caused by the flipped magnet?

Re: Question About The Pearly Gates Plus

Just to make mention of it: one diff between the PG+ and a 59B is that although they both use an alnico 5 magnet all PG's have mismatched coils so one coil is wound weaker than the other...that tends to make for a brighter pickup with a more open tonality to the mids. I don't know if they both use the same gauge wire or not, but my guess would be that they do. So the diff in tone would be due mostly to the wind and unmatched coils in the PG vs. matched coils in the 59. Lew

I heard a rumor that the PG used different screws in the poles as well. Ever hear of that Lew?

Nope...but I have heard that longer and shorter adjustable polepieces screws do sound differant. How far they stick out the bottem of the pickup...

I'll take a look at a PG and a 59 and see if there's any diff.
