Question about Wax Potting

Ok, so if a pickup WITHOUT pickup covers is wax potted, is it safe to put on a pickup cover without waxing the pickup?

Does the cover need to be potted?

If I remove a cover and clean off the wax from the pickup, do I have to wax pot on the outside of the pickup, do I have to wax pot the pickup again?

I've been doing it for years. Used to have a double boiler, but now I have a quart size crockpot I bought at a yard sale for $5. Works great.

You can get microphonic squealing from covers. Usually just some masking tape over the slugs is enough to dampen this
