Re: Question bout fender stuff

1) The E-to-E, centre-to-centre, dimension on Fender Tex-Mex single coils is the conventional 57mm. This means that, as usual, only the polepieces of the centre pickup align correctly with the strings.
2) Fender/Ping locking machineheads will go right in with just the use of a spanner. Fender/Schaller locking machineheads might go right on without modification. Fender/Sperzel locking machineheads will definitely require a new guide pin hole to be drilled.

The machineheads of your CiI Fender/Squier are almost certainly manufactured by Chin Ho. If you are on a tight budget, Wilkinson EZ Lok machineheads will directly retrofit. Just ensure that you get the version with the hidden guide peg fitting. I usually find that the rough edges around the dual string holes on the posts benefit from being filed smooth prior to installation.

You would think Fender/Schaller tuners would fit a Squier by looking at them, but they don't. At least not mine.

This is a 2000 Squier Fat Strat (Made in Indonesia). You can see they both use a similar 2-pin mount, but the Squier has the pins located closer to the tuning post. So close...

Wrong.

The guide pin holes on the Squier are closer to the tuning shaft hole than on Fenders. The body of the tuners is physically smaller.

That style of Squier tuners is compatible with Ibanez tuners. Ask me how I know. ;)

Re: Question bout fender stuff

Mea culpa. Only the cheaper machineheads will fit without resorting to drilling and/or physical force.

Since the OP's guitar is Indonesian-made, the only guaranteed no-mod fit is going to be a better quality Chin Ho made head. e.g. the Wilkinson EZ Lok type.

Instead of rods, ball bearings and thumbwheels, these feature two holes drilled through the string post. Locking is achieved by the way that the string is threaded around the post. IMO, the expense of these heads is in keeping with the value of the instrument. Other than a short loop of string showing up close, they will not alter the appearance of the guitar.

Re: Question bout fender stuff

Sperzels only required one hole drilled on my Squier head stock, per tuner and they fit great.
