Question for 'E' Model Megaswitch users...

I sent the folks @ StewMac a question about wiring 3 single-coils (see 4th diagram below) with this switch and was told all of the humbucking positions would be in parallel, not series?!?

If that's true, are ALL the humbucking positions on the other configs (H-H, H-S-H, H-S-S) not series in humbucking mode as well?!? :(

BTW, any other "megaswitch" sources/sellers out there?

The info on StewMac about the Megaswitches sucks to say the least!

Re: Question for 'E' Model Megaswitch users...

All the humbucker options for the model E call for the humbuckers 'coil tap', ie. the series link, meaning the humbuckers are truly in series. The other dual-coil positions(a&c, a&d, etc.) would seem to be in parallel. I would need to look at the traces in the switch to know what connetions are actually going on.

Re: Question for 'E' Model Megaswitch users...

The 'Mega' switches are all designed to do very specific things, and if you want to do something outside the realm of what the switch was intended to do, your options quickly become limited.

If there is any advice I can give you guys about getting special switching from 5-way switches, it is this: Use SUPER SWITCHES. They can do anything the mega-switches can do and more. They are easier to wire, and they are straightforward.

Re: Question for 'E' Model Megaswitch users...

I have been using Megaswitches for years now...I love them.

If you want position 2 and 4 to be hum cancelling reverse the wiring on the middle pickup. if you want the middle position to be hum cancelling reverse the wiring on the neck pickup (this will also mean position 2 is silent.

Re: Question for 'E' Model Megaswitch users...

I'm confused -- if you're asking about the 4th diagram with the single coils, why the concern about humbuckers?

Positions 2, 3 & 4 are "humbucking" or hum-cancelling.

I would like to get a switch that does this in series, because what I understand the "E" model Megaswitch does it parallel (think quack), and I want my strat in series (think growl).

I guess the super-switch could do it, although I hear it's not as reliable.

Another option would to get a stacked SC and wire the neck & middle SCs in series like a humbucker, then wire the Megaswitch for 2 humbuckers...

I just think that there should be a Megaswitch that does it in series straight-out though :baby:

Re: Question for 'E' Model Megaswitch users...

Check out Stewmac's new megaswitch...much more durable looking construction. Now it looks more like an old strat switch or a rotary laid on it's side. The old one was a little PCB with traces for contacts and tiny solder lugs.

Re: Question for 'E' Model Megaswitch users...

I have a 06 MIM strat that was SSS. I installed a Model 59 Hum that is one wire and a braid ground and is in the bridge position. I have the stock tex mex two wire in the middle position and in the neck, I have the only 4 wire hum pup, which is a SD Hotrails. I bought a blender for the number 3 pos when I have my neck and bridge on at the same time. I also bought a push pull so that I could split the neck hum 4 wire and get different tones with the middle pup, and have it still be hum cancelling. Ive searched for hours and hours and have downloaded over 100 diagrams and brought the guitar to guitar center and the on site Fender guy, wanted to send the guitar out to have this wired the way I want. I know how the blender is done, but its the splitting of the neck SD hotrail with the middle tex mex that is giving me trouble. I dont know north or south which one will be polarity wise correct, and the colors are now screwed up. I guess its easier to just switch the Tex mex colors instead of the SD from Green to black like the small print says on the SD pups. ( I did not heed this, and my neck is very low volume right now) Ctguy1955@yahoo.com is my email, if anyone can help me out with a diagram, I will name my third child after you (warning, Ive been fixed) and you will always have my gratitude. The SD Liberator for the 500K volume is a slightly different setup then normal volume switches and the Mega E model Stewmac from Schaller is a
bit different then most diagrams show............ Ive been going bonkers and sure would like to finalize this thing. Just show me what options I have and I will go with it !!!

Thanks so much !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So what if you have a SSH thing going on......can you still get all of the switches to work and then using a push pull get other tones by splitting the neck H 4 wire coil ????? Sure would like some help.

Re: Question for 'E' Model Megaswitch users...

Stew Mac was correct.

In diagram #4 (SSS), selector switch positions 2 and 4 can only call up noise-cancelling PU combinations if the centre PU is RP/RW.

If this is the case, the single coils labelled as A and C have to be of the same magnetic polarity and coil wind direction as each other. It follows that this pair of single coils cannot cancel hum.
