question for Simon F

hi Simon,

in another thread you mentioned you use (or have used) a Tech 21 Tri-AC into a Power Engine.

I'm wanting to check out that very setup. what kind of British drive could you get? Vox or Plexi overdrive....or JCM800 rage? (what I'm hoping for)

also, can you get clean tones with all 3 voicings, or just the Tweed?

I need to find Tech 21 dealer and checkl their stuff out. I was thinking the Tri-AC, wah, and delay pedal into a Power Engine would be a most cool and compact rig.

thanks!

Re: question for Simon F

Hi,

The Brit setting on the TriAC is a Marshall tone. It covers Plexi into JCM800 territory, but you'd probably want to run a boost in front for anything high gain. (Neither the Marshall nor the Mesa are especially high gain).

You can get clean tones from all 3 voicings, though the Marshall setting is very bright with the gain low - just like the real thing! I really like the clean tones on the Cali (Mesa Boogie) setting - warm and smooth.

You can program any of the voicings into any of the three presets, so if you wanted you could have three Fenders, three Marshalls or three Mesas - or any combination. Last time I used it at a rehearsal I had a Mesa clean tone, a Marshall rhythm tone and a slightly louder gainier Marshall lead tone.

The fact that you EQ each preset individually is useful - when I use the Trademark 60 it can be a struggle to find an EQ setting that works with both channels.

Hope this helps.
