Question for the PUP veterans

I have a JB 4 jr in the bridge and a lil 59 in the neck of my strat.

many have suggested cool rails or vintage rails as a good mid PUP.

what do you think of a hot rail in the neck and the lil 59 in the middle?
or a lil 59 in the neck and hot rail neck in the middle?
or any other suggestions aside from the vintage rail and cool rail?

what are you looking to get out of the guitar? there are lots of good choices depending on what you are trying to hear

Its a guitar project. a strat to begin with.
since strats or known for its highs and mids less lows and quack-like. the tone is stinging or biting..am thinking of adding more lows and more chunky and fatty tone capability. Which is why the three mini humbuckers.

You could go with 3 lil buckers, OR, you could put some APS1s in there, or some SSL5's with the SSL3 in the bridge, or the Quarter Pounders.
These options would retain some semblance of stratieness but offer the thickness you are looking for. In my experience, buckers in the neck and middle of a strat, while potentially cool, no longer sounds like a strat.

if I put a single coil in the mid position will it be able to retain the tonal quality of a strat? Say a classic stack neck..for example? :scratchch

That would probably get you the closest, but again in my experience a lil bucker split only yields so-so tones. Your results might be completely different.

I have a weird philosophy on guitars, I like my Tele to sound like a Tele, my Strat to sound like a strat. If I want that beefier humbucking tone, I'd get a Les Paul, or a super-strat with a true HH, or HSH configuration.
That's the beauty of it, now you have an excuse to buy another guitar!!!

I now have 10 guitars, Louddriver23!! All projects.

One more project and my wife will hang me from the wood beams overnight!!!

What would happen if I put in three lil buckers? What kind of sound would I get using an agathis body strat?
