Question for the valvetronix owners - stereo or mono?

My GF, who plays piano, wants to learn how to play guitar :headbang: so I figured it's a perfect time to get a new rig so we can play/practice at the same time. I've done some research and decided on the valvetronix but I can't decide if I want to go with the 120VTH (stereo) or the 60VTH (mono).

So here's the deal; should I get the 120 and go stereo or get the 60 and pocket the $300 saved in price difference? I've already got the cabs so that's not an issue.

TIA

J

Hey dude, you're back!!! You're one of the members I always wanted to see stick around!

If it's going to be used at home, definitely save the money and wattage, and get the AD60VTH. It's plenty loud. I have that one sitting on a Bogner 2-12 as my home practice rig, and it's great. I'd only suggest the 120 to someone who's going to compete with a hard hitting drummer, and is likely to run stereo to 2 cabs......or a stereo cab. The only thing I wish the 60 had was stereo recording outs. Unfortunately, you only get one mono rec. out.

The 60 is actually very loud, and I find myself using the variable wattage control quite a bit, because it's low volume I'm interested in. Otherwise, I'd just use my tube amps all the time.

And I own the stereo 120 VTH watt head and glad I bought the stereo version,as I always run it in stereo...Both great amps either way!

Re: Question for the valvetronix owners - stereo or mono?

It really depends on the situation. I bought a 120 because I needed to compete with a hard-hitting extremely talented drummer and the fact that I will be running 2 cabs in stereo gives a lot of depth to the chorus tones.

Aside from the issue of more depth to the modulation fx with the 120, the 60 is every bit as loud.

Do you still have your Cyber Twin? I'm wondering how strat tones compare between the Valvetronix and Cyber Twin. I've heard them both, but never spent real time with a strat in a side by side comparison. To me, most modeling amps sound great with humbuckers, but really need some tweaking to get good strat tones.

I sold the Cyber Twin.....The VTH is so much better overall.I prefer the BF Fender clean tones on the Vox amp over the sold CT.

I figured that would happen, since nobody really needs 2 modeling amps. The Vox is really the best one out there. I haven't spent a lot of time with a Vetta, but from what I've heard, I still like the Vox better, and it's 1/3 the price.:smack: Plus, I like the simplicity of knobs. The Cybertwin and Vetta give me a headache just to look at.

Yes, the Vetta is not for the faint of heart. It took me years to get the tone I was looking for out of that thing, but now I swear it blows the Vox out of the water! (I've compared the two). It's easier to dial in tones on the Vox, though. With the Vetta it takes a while, at least until you've learned how to tweak the thing.

Re: Question for the valvetronix owners - stereo or mono?

Hey thanks for the input guys. I think I will go with the 120. I like the stereo effect and since I've got the cabs I might as well use them.

We went guitar shoping for her this weekend. She likes my LP but the 50's neck is a little to big for her hands. So she played a few strats and said they were nice but not what she wanted. Then she saw a black SG standard and asked what the deal was with that. Sales guy pulled it down and her face lit up. She liked the neck and when she plugged it in and played it she commented that she "likes the way it growls" :approve:. She told the sales guy to ring her up but I convinced her that we should shop around for another week and look at more guitars before she commits. She was bummed but she got where I was coming from (the sales guy was ready to kill me). She called me this morning and said the SG was the first thing on her mind when she woke up. My girls got GAS! :laugh2:

I run my VTH amp through the matching AD 2x12 Vox cab,but I put V30s in mine.Tonight the amp and cab and my blue strat loaded w/Twangbanger in bridge and Antiquity Surfers sounded heavenly all night at practice!
