Question for you guys....

When buying an amp do you typically buy new or used? Depends is also acceptable. Just curious what your guys take is on it. I've done both but prefer to buy new. I dunno if it's OCD or what. I do however hate taking a loss if I decide to sell.

Usually used, Don't make them like they used to unless you do boot eek.

That being said I did order a brand new Champ a week ago.

When it comes to pedals, I'm feeling its cheaper in the long term to just buy new. On places like TGP, the break is not really that much on the whole. There are bargains there, just have to use your best judgement.

I bought a new Suhr last year to order for a few hundred over what I'd expect to pay in the TGP emporium. I got it built to my spec, my color and a lifetime warranty.

When it comes to amps..... NEW. I just do not know the condition or life events some of those beautiful beasts have good through. Now effects are a different story.... I seem to always buy used.

I like used. But I do alot of my own repairs and don't worry too much about getting a lemon. I am careful about who I buy from though and I make sure to test it. I always do research on what I'm looking to buy so I know what I'm getting into and what to look for. In the case of my 6260, I was able to get the whole half stack for $350 with new power tubes. I spent some money on new pre tubes, did my own bias adjustment and came out better that I would have otherwise been able to afford and it was under budget.

That being said, if customization comes into play, new is the only option. Usually I do well with used gear though.

Re: Question for you guys....

It's important to me that my gearslutting doesn't leak money, so I generally buy used at a price where I don't take a lot of loss when re-selling.

I happen to be only interested in gear that is easily repairable (no microelectronics), so either it comes with blown transformers (in which case I hit the seller) or there is normal operating risk.

Re: Question for you guys....

I'm partial to old amps, so I don't typically have a choice. I've never had an issue buying off TGP or eBay. Used is the way to go for me. I like researching and finding the best bargains... sometimes I become obsessed with it. I don't like taking the hit on things typically when I know one just as good as it is waiting out there for cheaper. I RARELY buy any gear new.
