is the epi korina a 1 piece korina body? or just a top to make it look like 1 piece, set neck, what would you rate it all around ?

Re: question on epiphone korina?

There was just a thread here a week ago about Epiphone's dubious woods!
I doubt it's a soild Korina wood body for the price a Epi goes for? I've never
saw one up close, But I think it is a Lamanate?

Re: question on epiphone korina?

I refinished my korina explorer, including shaving off the veneer which had darkened faster than the body. It's a korina veneer on top of a three piece body. I can't comment about the black ones however, they could be mahogany or alder instead of limba.

Re: question on epiphone korina?

I think there was thread on here that said that epiphones were not limba, they were actually bleached mahogany. I have not looked at one close enough for me to say though.

Good call...I have looked at several dozen, and they are bleached mahogany

I do not think that they are using limba veneers...the grain patteren is not that much different from mahogany, and once it's bleached you have to set it right next to a real piece of limba wood finished in korina to see the difference, plus on a see through finish you would be able to see the lines for the veneer on the front and back.

You could see the lines between the veneer and the wood on my explorer. Front and back. Further, once I sanded it off, it was apparent that it was a veneer on top of a three piece body.

Who knows? I'm done trying to figure it out, some people say korina, then others say mahogany, one person said agathis. I just know it has a decent sound.
