Question on magnet swap for 490R

Like so many other players, I find the 490R in my Les Paul to be a bit muddy / mushy. I'm looking for more clarity and a more defined low end, would like to get it with a mag swap rather than buying new PUs. After searching several threads, it looks like I need to go with a UOA5 magnet. Here's the link to what I'm planning to order. Before I shell out the whopping seven bucks, is this what I need to accomplish what I'm after? Thanks!

Yep. UOA5 is the brightest mag with a vintage feel. Those are roughcast if that's what you're going for. They slightly round the very top compared to smooth which is more crisp all the way through the top.

Thanks, Clint. I didn't realize there was a difference in roughcast and smooth. A little more homework may be in order.

Yes, and if that 490r is paired with a 498t, swap that A5 for a UOA5 too.

Though I have to say, the 498t with a UOA5 is good. The 490r with a UOA5 is phenomenal.

I second this. UOA5 sounds great in a 490R! A4 is another alternative if the UOA5 doesn't do what you want it to.
