Question on Stainless Steel Guitar Strings

Hey guys, i read somewhere that stainless steel guitar strings are the brightest sounding and made of harder material that will cause more fret-wear.

Is that true about the fret wear part? coz over here its humid as hell and my strings rust pretty easily, so i was thinking of stainless steel strings but dont want my frets to wear out that quickly.

They are definitely the brightest and don't rust. I don't think the increase in fret-wear(it happens) is that massive. From what i've seen it won't be that much faster than regular strings

Try a set of Elixir strings too . . . many people don't like them, but my hands are like battery acid on regular strings and I can't get over the fact that Elixirs don't rust after months of use.

will do so, but like i said, its the weather here. constant humidity. thats why i was thinking of going for something like D'Addario or Ernie Ball Stainless Steels or even Dean Markley's Blue Steel

use whatever strings you like, the difference in fretware isnt that much as has atleast as much to do with how heavy handed you are

+1 on that. fret wear depends more on the pressure you use to press the strings against the frets than on the strings material.
by the way, Dean Markley Blue Steel are NOT stainless steel, they are nickelplated steel. They freeze them with liquid nitrogen and that's why they call them blue, blue is a color that means "cold"
I recommend that you ckeck out D'Addario XLS strings, I remember that I liked them at some time.

coated strings do last a really long time, but i cant stand the tone. i havent played a single set of coated strings that sound as good as a good set of non-coated strings

If you can find some Rotosound strings give them a try. They have impressed me.

I never had an issue with fretwear with SS strings...mostly cos I never left them on long enough...I found they REALLY tore up my fingers compared to NPS or pure nickel.. :ouch:

When I was travelling in humid climates, I was considering getting Elixirs, but their price is not exactly proportionate to how long they last. I found that I still spent less on strings by sticking with D'Addario and just changing them more often.

Bahh, the Blue Steel Strings were way two bassy for me, and thats on the bridge pickup of a telecaster. The Fender Stainless Steel Strings sound much better, although its more string size than material that matters. 10 - 46 is what i use, but im thinking of going to 11

i use 10-46 mostly as well.
i tried blue steel few years ago. I only remember that is lasted really long and not how it sounds./

The stainless steels will not rust, but the wear issue is nominal... it depends on how hard you play.

I dislike the coated strings and prefer the sound of nickel... so I just change strings frequently... also because it is humid here too..
