Question, probably for Frank Falbo

On a friend's guitar, he has JB bucker bridge and Classic Stack middle, and the CS is practically like comparing the noise level of an active versus passive pickup.
How did Seymour Duncan manage to make a noiseless single coil quieter than an actual full size humbucker?
I've been wondering for ages.

Re: Question, probably for Frank Falbo

The Classic stack is the first SD pickup I owned.

I have a JB and a Hot Stack in my Strat and I get no noise from either.

I suspect that your friends guitar has another issue. I am guessing a funky switch or a grounding issue with the JB. I don't know the particular issues with how your friends guitar is wired but wiring and bad components often add additional noise in electric guitars. Over heated components are often a cause.

I don't mean as in a grounding issue or whatever, I'm talking about the noise that that happens when you turn the gain right up, which is unavoidable with any pickup.
The noise gate can completely kill the hum, so his guitar is fine.
He has a Jackson Pro Series DK2S, these are high quality Japanese made instruments and the JB bridge is making no more hum than a Soloist model with JB with perfect grounding and wiring.

It just seems every full size humbucker I've played doesn't seem to have the that really great level of noise cancelling at extremely high gain levels that the Classic Stack offers and there has to be something that explains why the Classic Stack is so effective at noise cancelling at high gain levels that would otherwise leave a full size humbucker squealing with feedback.
It truly is an incredible pickup to use in the studio with it's quietness.

Re: Question, probably for Frank Falbo

My guess is that it's magnetic field is smaller and more focused than a side by side 'bucker, so it rejects off axis interference more effectively.

Re: Question, probably for Frank Falbo

the classic stack + is specifically designed to be super quiet. to the point of even having a resister on some to kill as much hum as possible.

Can you elaborate on what exactly makes the Classic Stack Plus quieter than a normal size 'bucker?

as far as i know it is the only duncan pup that each unit is calibrated for the least possible noise
