Question re: grounding Vintage for Tele to a 4-way switch

I know that I need to dis-connect a "jumper" that connects the cover to the ground, and then connect that to a wire to gorund on the volume pot. To be certain, do I disconnect it in the middle, or off on the side? I am guessing in the middle, although I don't see where it connects to the cover.

I just clipped mine in the middle. The solder joint on the side should be the cover ground. If possible test ohms for continuity to the two contacts. If you need i can check the new one i have in the box waiting for my build to be done.

There a little tab above the lead wires. That is the metal cover. That tiny wire connects that tab to the black (finish) lead. Wire the white and black leads to the switch, and add a ground wire to the pickup cover tab, and ground it. You can cut that tiny wire wherever you want; just break the connection somehow.

I personally was unable to solder to the tab as per the instructions on the oak griggsby 4 way switch. I used a butane soldering iron on full heat and it wouldnt stick any solder to the cover. I was afraid of damaging the pickup due to excessive heat. I think i ran a wire from the solder joint on the flat work. And shielded the pickguard and cavity with shielding paint which made contact with the cover

Are you heating up the tab, and adding solder to the heated tab? Or are you adding the solder to the iron? Add solder to the heated tab. If that doesn't work, use soldering flux. If that doesn't work, rough up the tab a little with sandpaper.

I was heating up the tab and trying to add solder. It got very hot to where i was starting to worry about the wax and the laminated wire due to radiant heat. Sand paper might work if i have to do it that way. If im not mistaken i just ran a green hookup wire to the solder joint on the flat work to answer the ops question. I hope he is getting some info

Many thanks to all who answered. I think the idea of clipping the jumper at one end, as opposed to in the middle, was to be able to use it as the connection to the ground wire (twist and solder), so as to avoid having to solder to the cover tab. Make sense?

After clipping the jumper just use a meter to confirm which solder joint is the ground and if one is connected to the black wire

looking at your pic...

clip the bare wire at the left solder connection and connect that little bare wire to a length of wire to use as the cover ground. simple.
