Question(s) for POD Farm Users

Do you apply the amp and/or effect sims to the guitar as you're recording it, or do you lay down a clean track - guitar > interface > DAW and then add amp and effect models? Can you audition the parameters as you adjust them before recording, or is it a matter of trial and error with multiple "undos"?

I am still experimenting with mics and placement and prefer recording my actual gear, but it limits the hours when I can play/record. I am considering the POD Farm as a plugin but need to know more about how it works.

I lay down clean track then reamp. OS X and Windows 7 dont work with line 6 as they dont have drivers yet (check the line 6 forums to confirm this; its very annoying!!)

I always record it with the amp and effects, since I need the harmonic feel and feedback.
But you can record 2 tracks clean and 2 tracks wet simultanously, so you can have both

quick answer is its pretty tough to configure! its in the ipod manual , and forums for reaper. I play but hear all the effects. but its a dry recording. then I use podfarm as a plugin. I use podfarm platinum reamped. when I have more info on how to get the DAW settings correct Ill post the linkz, but it may be awhile for me...

It shouldn't be too hard to lay down the track and get it reamped.
You don't have to stick with POD Farm btw Immortalsix, you can use any amp sim, boost pedal simulation and impulse response file you want.
If you're going the route of using something else other than POD Farm, a typical configuration is this:

Boost pedal simulation (let's say, Tube Screamers Secret, which is a popular one) > Amp sim > Impulse host which then has your IR file loaded onto it > EQ/Saturation or whatever you want afterwards.
The first 3 are essential to get right, because if you place TSS in the wrong place, or the amp sim or IR host in the wrong place, things wont sound right.

POD Farm does work with Windows 7 actually. I installed using the Vista drivers. Its not perfect because the sound seems to cut out every now and then thought it doesnt seem to be picked up when recording. It does throw of timing though.

I use POD farm but dont have the plugin license. SO I just record with the Amp sim on (although I am looking at some of the other free plugins)

not good, but I see they *JUST NOW* announced on their facebook that they have the beta drivers that eliminate blue screen. I just want to plug it in and have the darned thing work like it did before my XPpro computer died, Im not a computer guru...I recently got a new mac with OS X and returned it since it was not compatible with line 6. :eyecrazy:

so ya, I have line 6 woes.

I usually record with the amp sim on, and the PODfarm cabinet emulation defeated and replaced with Recabinet (running as an insert). Sure, I'm stuck with whatever "amp" sound I've chosen (usually know what I'm shooting for in advance anyway) but at least I can still play with the cabinets after the fact...

Still running XP, so (thankfully it seems) none of the issues described here...

Yeh remember that POD Farm bundled with hardware doesn't come with the plugin in licence.
I tend to use POD Farm for basic tracks to organize the song. But when I do the final tracks I play through POD Farm (using it for reference) but just the dry signal goes to Cubase then use Amplitube as a plugin. Sometimes though the tones out of the POD FARM is better so for something fairly dry I may just use the POD FARM just setting it up and playing (much like an amp where you can't readjust in the mixdown) usually thats just for double tracking or trakcs that don't need alot of attention. Some of the best guitar sounds on records had minimum tweaking.

Pod is pretty they were giving away Pod Farm for free a couple of months ago. I even posted it here.

Also Reload in 5 the plugin has gotten really cheap you may want to check it out. I have record serveal thing with the POD farm and I think they sound good.

I hope to get a computer that is fast enough soon; Im thinking of getting a used dell duo core with vista and then upgrading in a year or so once they get all the bugz worked out

I'll definitely check it out. Really, I am looking at the free and < $130 programs only. Right now I'm struggling trying to get my DAW to recognize a free plugin that I downloaded ...... there is still so much to learn.

I am seriously considering ReValver HP just because it's Peavey rather than broadcasting my credit card info to some company I'd never be able to track down in Italy.

Looks like it is $49
Not bad, dont know if it is worth it TO ME but it would be nice to record clean, and change settings as needed. But not really a NEED.
And I just got EZ Drummer, the full version to replace the lite version I have been using.

I use POD farm, and my UX1. Just do it before the DAW, rather than as a plugin. Works awesome anyway.

Well, if you get the newer interfaces (pod studio gx, ux1 or ux2) they come with the plugin. And the gx is $99

If I was going to actually record something serious with a POD I would definitely track clean and then bounce a reamped track for each take... but since I really only use the POD for at-home jamming, demo writing, and the occasion forum contest, I just do it the lazy way and track the processes signal from the start.

I just figured this out today... I bought a POD Studio UX2, and it comes with the POD Farm plug-in. However, the plug-in is not installed in a standard location by default. So in Reaper, which Lazarus I think you ended up using, you go to the preferences page and dig up Plug-ins. Click add plugin location (or something like that), and browse to C:\Program Files\Line6\... And you should find it in there.

Once you have that set up, use the POD Farm plug-in as the first effect in your chain after you've recorded the track clean. I think that's all there is to it. (But like I said, I just figured this out today after messing with GearBox and Line6 Monkey and trying to reinstall the POD Farm software.)

Actually POD Farm works fine on OSX. I just upgraded to it ($49) from the old Gear Box software I used and together with GarageBand it's working fine. Since I've been using it I've been recording dry and adding whatever amps and effects later.
