questions about antiquity humbuckers

i have a semi hollow bluesbird with 59's and i really go back and forth with the pickups, some days i like them and other days i don't. they seem a little bright sometimes and the maple top on the guitar is pretty thick, that just adds to the brightness. I like the definition that i get from notes, but like i said sometimes they seem too bright.

As many of you know, i have antiquity sets in both a tele and a strat and love the sound. I am still thinking about putting the humbuckers in my lp like guitar, but i want to know what the note definition is like on them and also if they will take advantage of the semi hollow body of the guitar. Are there any better pickups for this guitar? I do want to stick with humbuckers.

If you guys think that this would be the best set of pickups i will order them tomorrow from lew.

I really like the Antiquity Humbuckers. At first maybe not so much, but at the time I didn't recognize the open airyness & purity of sound. You know, you've played the Strat & Tele sets, there is a pure tone that pours through this line of pups. I have the Strat set ('91 Beck Strat) & the hums ('92 Les Paul Std.) and totally enjoy the tone I get from those pups. I think you're really gonna dig the hums, I enjoy 'em more every day. Good luck. thanks darrin i needed to hear that. you are the voice of reason and also say, buy them!

the martin is amazing, i have never enjoyed an acoustic like this one. It is the first acoustic i have owned and i think i may never part with it. the only thing i would like is a different saddle. i almost can't put the guitar down, and neither can my girlfriend

I have Antiquities in both an Epiphone Dot 335 and a Les Paul.
Awesome pickups. Great sound in both. You can't go wrong in my opinion.

antiquities is a good choice for warmer sounds, it has alnico IIs. 59s with A5s sounds brighter and glassier which is good for darker sounding guitars,

Antiquitys rule, IMO. More texture, more complexity, more personality.

I have a good selection of Antiquity humbuckers on hand, BTW, and can even tell you what colors are under the covers. (Captain Caveman needed a "special" color combination so I checked the bobbin color and labeled all the Ant humbuckers I have) I have a few with the "DC" coils too...under the covers.

It's fairly easy to check the color...I just remove two screws under the pickup and you can see the color of the bobbins through the screw holes.

Ants are soft. But clear, and very 3d, deep indeed. They are the best in what they do. Moreover, after a mag swap they rival and sometimes beat the insanely expensive boutique PAF clones. I love my a5/a3's as much as I love my timbuckers and rolphs.

I've had Antiquity humbuckers in my '66 SG Standard for years now. There's magic in them!

Having personally heard Steve's SG, I totally concur with his assessment. I've got Ants (not bugs) in my LP Custom, and there's almost no way to describe how good it sounds (actually I'm too lazy right now to give a fuller description :laugh2: )

well Doc, you asked for it.

I just got my humbuckers installed and it took me way too long. I was really excited to hear what the antiquities could do for my bluesbird. It already sounded great. I could get a really good clapton or page imitation if i tried, but where it really shined was playing straight forward rock. great cutting tone with the 59's, but sometimes it seemed too bright. The antiquites take the best qualities as far as i am concerned and put them all in one pickup. I love a vintage tone and these definately have that, they are also very smooth and clear at the same time. I get great thick overdriven tones, and overdriven is where these pickups really shine. They go from clean to smooth syrupy and overdriven with very little effort. They really are all i could want in my bluesbird, they make it shine and sparkle and grind like a great guitar should.

Hopefully i can get something like a flat topped lp special or something like that for the 59's, but if i even get one of the historic LP's like i want, i will be using another set of antiquities and i may even try you magnet swap Doc, A5 in the bridge.

Scott, great news bro!!! :dance: If you're like me, I found a new appreciation for the pups every time I played them, still do. The whole line of Antiquity pups from Seymour just nail it. Talkin' about some mojo. SHEEEEET!!! Keep us updated as you discover more of the nuances of these great pups. Whew!!!! Rock on!!!
