I wouldn't villainize the other party just because the OP couldn't get it to sound good and didn't want to do any back-and-forth to work on adjusting it or identifying it. It's not like you just pop in a new pickup and instantly it sounds amazing every single time. I'd give it the benefit of the doubt until solid evidence is produced. Either that or just move on
