Hey guys, been a while since ive posted. Anyways ive been scoping out pauls on ebay for a next guitar (ive been very interested for a while). I was wondering hows the quality/tone compare to a standard? Keep in mind my band is mostly a rock cover band, not to to much metal, overdriven blues (gov't mule is my main influence for blues)

Other than this i was wondering if 1280+ shipping (35) on ebay for a 2000 in perfect condision is a good deal on a classic. thanks guys

-any imput would be great!

Re: Questions about les paul classic

not sure but i know that a new classic runs for 2100 in canadian im not sure how that converts to americans just to give you an idea of its market sale price new.

Re: Questions about les paul classic

Well.. all the Classics Ive seen so far were quite ugly. Dull looking tops, 2-3 pieces body.

The ugliest one I ever saw is currently at the local store... the body wood is cut and glued in a V shape.... 3 pieces... like this (V)... and not as symmetrical!

wow thats not great for a 1000+ guitar, so better off with a standard? i dont think id like the hot pickups on the classic anyways. Hopefully a nice standard will come up soon for a good buy it now price....

Re: Questions about les paul classic

I got a classic and its a one piece back, I'm not crazy about rediculously crazy flamed tops that are on some guitars, it just looks kinda cheesy. Mines a honeyburst plaintop and you'll want to change the pups too, and a used standard that has pre burst bucker pro pickups you'll want to change those too, thats if you even like the BB pros in the first place. that price is OK, I got mine for 1100. edwards are supposed to be really good as well but their quite rare on ebay. I don't know if this matters but gilby clarke from GnR said he prefers classics over standards....its really preference

Re: Questions about les paul classic

hey man,

If you have 1300.00 to spend on a paul...check out a standard...the pups will be better (assuming that you leave them stock(I would drop Duncan's in asap!)) Classics come with 495 and 500t...BOO! Standards of the past few years come with BB pro's...these are not as smooth as BB I's, II's, and III's but still better that 498 and 500!!! Plus on a Standard you usally get better tops and Standards are avalible with both a 50's and a 60's neck...the Classic is only a 60's. All this said If you want a 60's neck and 598 and 500t pups, and you could care less about the top...get a classic. If it were me, and it were my 1300.00 I would get 2 Orville or Burney or one Tokai and dump the rest of the money into something else (because there would be money left!)

Re: Questions about les paul classic

Ive played a LP classic, and liked it quite a bit. Personally i'd say if you dont mind the neck and the yellow inlays go for it, you can always swap out the pick ups later for duncans and its good guitar none the less. You could always consider down grading to a much cheaper lp studio, those things are awesome, and the lack of binding makes them affordable to poor kids like me. Just an idea :) If you compare a standard to a classic its obvious which will be better, with guitars i firmly believe you get what you pay for. Thus a standard will of course be nicer in all aspects of quality sounds etc... its all a matter of how much are you willing to spend for that upgrade, and in truth i find from what ive seen in the stores with gibson LP's that difference is noticable but not entirely important.

Check out EDWARDS Les paul on eBay.... ;)
Thames, How does the Edwards LPs stack up to a Gibson in terms of quality? What are your views?

Re: Questions about les paul classic

odie dude,

My Edwards would compare more to a Gibson CS than a std production model. No need to say more.

I know 2 other persons who have bought a Edwards LP TV yellow w/1xP90, 1-piece body, outstanding guitar. They both think the same.

When a guitar features high-quality pickups (stock Duncans!), superb 1 piece mahogany body and 1 piece mahogany neck, both cut at the right angle (very important!), thick awesome flametops, long-neck tenon, vintage-correct (and highgrade) electronics... you're into CustomShop territory IMHO.
