Questions about wiring with Push/Pull Pot

Hey everyone, this is my first post in this forum. Anyways I recently bought a JB Jr. and a Lil 59 to put in my epiphone strat style guitar. I put the Jb Jr. in the bridge and the Lil 59 in the neck and am not using a middle pickup. I wired it with a push/pull pot for switching between humbucking and single coil. I dont know if i did this right bc each pickup sounds the same no matter what i do with the push/pull. Also, I had some trouble reading the schematics for with the 5 way selector. I was maybe thinking of replacing the 5 way selector with a 3 way. Would anyone be able to help with explaining of how to do the wiring. Also, there is a great loud hiss when Im at a high gain setting, but when i turn the middle tone nob down the hiss goes away. Does this mean I need to replace the pot? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Questions about wiring with Push/Pull Pot

welcome to the forum

you will have to tell us more about how you wired them to the push/pull in order for us to help diagnose the problem .. basically, you should have the green wire on one terminal and also to ground, the red and white wires on the other terminal and the black going to the switch ... when you pull the pot up, it should short the red/white to ground leaving only one coil active

as for the 5 way, how are you wiring it if there is no middle pickup? what combinations are you hoping to get? .. if you only want 3 combinations, switching to a 3-way is probably a good idea

let us know more and we will be happy to help more

cheers

Re: Questions about wiring with Push/Pull Pot

that looks very cool, but very complicated and not a perfect match for your scenario

if you didnt get the 5-way correct, i bet the whole thing would act kinda dodgy

and given that you dont have a middle pickup to worry about, i'd wire the push/pull the way i recommended .. one pickup on each side of the switch

good luck
