Sorry for the long-winded post:
I've always tended to shy away from running too many pedals before my amps because I was worried about tone and noise. I've been running Dunlop Crybaby Wah -> Dano Daddy-O -> Dano Cool Cat -> Dano Dan-Echo -> Traynor Custom Blue 50 or Traynor YCS100. I've been fairly happy with my sound, as far as non-boutique pedals go. The Dano metal pedals have held up to years of gigging. Yeah, I know... I say I'm worried about tone and then use Dano pedals. But they really aren't that bad. And the Cool Cat Chorus is my favorite chorus pedal of all-time.
Last weekend my Dano Daddy-O overdrive bit the dust. When switched on it just makes the sound go very "dark" and mushy. It used to be like a slightly bright TS9 when switched-on. So I don't know what happened there.
Anyways... a friend dropped off his TS9 and Boss GE7 EQ for me to put on my pedal board. The TS9 was a no-brainer and will do until/if I am able to repair my Dano. I've actually had the TS9 in my board several times before and opted for the Dano because it has more EQ functions and sounds similar to me. But for now I am stuck with the TS9 regardless. But I'm not sure what to do with the Boss EQ. It has no mods done to it and it noisy. But only when turned on. I tried an upside down curve on it with the mids boosted and kind of like the violin tone I am able to dial in for lead work. But I'm not sure if it's worth it since the pedal is so noisy and may affect my overall tone even when off. What say you pedal guru's about that? I am running it last in the chain after the Dan-Echo. Is that the place for it? Would I be better off running the EQ in the effects loop?
I do want to get my pedal board up to snuff in the next year, so I do plan to get some better quality effects down the road, but this'll have to do for this summer's gigs. Besides upgrading my pedals later-on, I am also considering the options of replacing it all with a Vox ToneLab LE or getting a TC G-Major and using it through the loop. Any input on any of my ramblings is very welcome and appreciated. Thanks!
