Quick question about SH-6 NECK pup...

distorted

New member
i recently had an sh-6b and an sh-1n '59 model installed on my ibanez rg2 ex2 (basswood body, rosewood fretboard). i am not completely satisfied with the '59 pup because i do a lot of pick tapping and it seems like there's not enough, um, distortion and/or high-end to it. im using a boss mt-2 metal zone pedal and im running it through a marshall avt50 half-stack. i looked at the sh-6 NECK pickup and it seems like it's close the '59 except WAY more midrange and it being a distortion pickup means that it would probably have some good high-end, which would work out for me and my style of playing. i love the sound, sustain, and clarity of the '59 but it just doesnt have that high-end that im lookin for.

my question is has anyone played on the sh-6n pup and if so do you think that i should swap my pups? feedback/opinions/whatever will help. thank you :)

Jazz bridge. The DDN might do it but, I know the jazz should do it if you like the 59 and its qualitys but, want more highs..

Re: Quick question about SH-6 NECK pup...

i think the jazz is great! i have it in my schecter and i love it! for leads and cleans its perfect. i think it lacks with power chord rythm though.

Re: Quick question about SH-6 NECK pup...

thanks for the replies. i looked at the jazz model also and it sounds a little better but i think that i need a "hot" neck pickup so im gonna go with the distortion but if anyone else has any suggestions i am more than willing to hear them out. thanks again! :spam: :headbang: :jester:

Re: Quick question about SH-6 NECK pup...

I use a Distortion Bridge in the neck position..It works fine ,once you adjust the PU height right!Be aware ,it's a monster!

Re: Quick question about SH-6 NECK pup...

yeah i love the sound i get from my sh-6 bridge when im tapping so im basically looking for that sound but with more warmth...so it sounds more like a neck pickup y'know.

Re: Quick question about SH-6 NECK pup...

The SH-6N is an awsome pup, maybe the most under rated or forgotten. But I think it's one of the best.Sounds very warm split.

Re: Quick question about SH-6 NECK pup...

jb in the neck should work too. the high mids and some say lack of bass is good for leads especially in the neck.

Re: Quick question about SH-6 NECK pup...

Scremin Demon in that neck position all day long!

Re: Quick question about SH-6 NECK pup...

All good advice here from the SD brethren. I have used a Screaming Demon in the neck and it is great when combined with a DD, which just so happens to be one of my favorite SD buckers. I also think the JB or DDn is a good choice and reason being is they are not far from the DD bridge model.

* The DDn has a smaller ceramic magnet IIRC and underwound from a DDb.

* The JB is the DDb only the magnet is an alnico 5 instead of the thick ceramic and magnetic spacer. Any of these pickups will work out great for you.

Re: Quick question about SH-6 NECK pup...

Don't hesitate to try that DDn. KILLER pickup. I'd also recommend trying just about anything you can get your hands on.

Re: Quick question about SH-6 NECK pup...

Yeah, since it is a basswood Ibanez body, I would go with a Demon as well. My RG 760 basswood body needed stronger pu's too.

I run two SH6's in my Explorer but it is all Mahogany and it is seriously mean.

junkdk

Re: Quick question about SH-6 NECK pup...

I had a marshall avt50 combo (changed the the tube and speaker)

my basswood guitar with a Custom bridge and a Distortion neck was and still is badass for metal with that amp

Re: Quick question about SH-6 NECK pup...

yeah i just sent the '59 back to the company in exchange for a FREE sh-6n pup. it should be here any day now. can't wait! thanks again:biglaugh:

Re: Quick question about SH-6 NECK pup...

of course besides shipping and handling which was about six bucks but it's worth it of course.
