Quick question for Hamer USA owners

Hey guys, can anyone help me out here? My used Hamer arrived with a pretty decent setup when I bought it, but I like the neck almost flat with just a very small amount of relief, so I wanted to give the truss rod a small tweak. I removed the truss rod cover at the headstock, only to find no truss rod nut. I'm used to my Wolfgang, which has the truss rod adjustment nut just above the neck pickup. On the Wolfgang, there is a black wheel-like nut with holes, and I just use a hex wrench to turn it. On the Hamer, there's a threaded sleeve for a nut to fit on, but no nut. It looks like the previous owner lost the nut, but I thought I'd post here just to make sure I was correct. Shouldn't there be some sort of hex nut screwed on to the threaded part of the truss rod adjustment? I can probably post a pic if no one knows what I'm talking about. Thanks.

Re: Quick question for Hamer USA owners

Of course there should be nut! Just like the nut on a Les Paul. If all you have is what looks like a threaded rod or screw...you're screwed! Not really...but you do need a brass nut. Brass is best...it'll strip before the rod does if it's overtightened and a stripped nut is a lot easier to replace than a stripped truss rod. Lew

Thanks Lew...any idea where I can get a new one that fits correctly, or do I need to order a replacement from Hamer's parts department?

Re: Quick question for Hamer USA owners

It's the same size as a Gibson nut so either should be able to provide one. It's also a standard nut...so a really, really good old fashioned hardware store should have it. Maybe there's somewhere in your hometown that specializes in nuts and bolts?

Re: Quick question for Hamer USA owners

My old Hamers, from the late 70's, had a nut identical to the Gibson. Trying to remember what's on my Monoco...maybe Jeremy's right. I think the size of the thread is identical tho... Hmmmmm....

Re: Quick question for Hamer USA owners

You might also email or call Kim Keller at Hamer (go to the Kaman website to find Hamer's website). He's a decent guy and was very helpful to me, with my Hamer a few years back when I sent it to them to be set up to fatory specs.

BTW, you have great taste in guitars (just like the rest of us Hamer owners).
