a have a few quick questions about the classic stack plus

1. What's the going price right now?
2. is it available in Black?
3. when a neck version is split, what coil on a JB would be used to be hum cancelling when both pups are on together.

thanks,
greg

Im not sure I understand question 3...if you split the neck Stack Plus AND run it with a split the JB there is no way to make hum cancelling

Re: Quick questions about Classic Stack Plus

I don't see why there would be any need to split the stack plus pickups.

Sure there is, like ANY split bucker/single combo. As long as one is RWRP WRT the other...

You want strat position 4 sound, and you have a JB in the bridge and a stack in the middle. Classis scenario. Split the JB, combine with one coil of the stack that's RWRP from the JB coil you're using. If you use the whole stack, you'll get hum from the "uncancelled" JB coil. You could use the whole JB, but that's a different sound with less "cluck". You could use the JB wired in parallel as a "single coil sound", but IMO that's not as good either.

I want a TPDT switch so I can switch a H-S-H axe with a stack in the center. So ALL are bucking or ALL are split. With the combos I use, this would rock. Never saw such a switch, though...

The middle Stack Plus is RW/RP but he said...the NECK and the Bridge JB split...Im still not sure if I even read his question right...

Re: Quick questions about Classic Stack Plus

Correct, Jester. THe question I raise is how much are you going to gain doing that over just combining the two pickups in parallel? (standard wiring)

Edit-Good point TGWIF, I glanced over the neck part. Still, some combo in there should still make it hum cancelling. (Might need a mag flip or lead reversal)

Re: Quick questions about Classic Stack Plus

I'll be splitting the Classic Stack Plus pickups in my '88 Strat that I'm wiring up this week. Evan told us at NAMM that when split, the Classic Stack Plus top coil is pretty much just like a vintage alnico 5 Strat pickup and the reason Duncan makes the middle pickup RW/RP is so when the Classic Stack Plus pickups are split you'll still have humcancelling in the #2 and #4 positions of a five way switch. I would expect that split the tone would be a little less thick in the mids and a little more transparent. In any case, I'm putting together a guitar with two Stack Plus pickups and a JB and I'll be installing two mini switches: one to split both Stack Plus pickups and the other will be a three position mini to let me go single/series/parallel with the JB. Re: Quick questions about Classic Stack Plus

here is my situation:

my esp (the one in my sig) has 2 pickups. One humbucker sized humbucker (JB) in the bridge and one single coil sized humbucker (Duncan Designed Hot Rail) in the neck. I love the sound of the JB both full and split, the DDHR is passable on both. I really like the idea of having a guitar that is not a "typical" pickup setup. and I want to use the neck classic stack plus in the neck of the guitar. I like the split in-between sound of the pickups I have now and I would like to keep or improve on that tone. I know that the classic stack plus split in the neck would almost be useless but I don't want to lose the option of having both pups on, split, and humcancelling.
the reason why I'm asking what coil needs to be on for this to work is that I've found that the screw coil sounds best (when split) and i would like to have the greatest distance between the 2 pups when i do split them. as far as wiring, I can handle anything that is thrown at me (which leads go where ... call me artie's understudy) but the magnet flip, I'm still not comfortable with.

thanks everyone

here is a picture of my guitar ... look at the flames ... ooooo

Re: Quick questions about Classic Stack Plus

Forgive me if this is a noob question, but is it possible to wire a S-S-H setup so that the CS+'s are "normal" in positions 1 and 3, split in position 2, CS+ and JB split position 4, full JB position 5, but with a switch to split the HB?

Both of these solutions would negate the hum canceling in position 2. Gain one, lose one...

That sounds like a great setup, Lew.
