Quick tele pickup question (phase related)

Hey guys!

I have this '66 tele that I love, but the neck pickup needs to be a bit hotter and the middle position is a bad out-phase/polarity sound I don't dig. The bridge pickup is original but was rewound by Don Mare. I'm guessing Don rewound it to original specs/polarity. I don't wanna mess with the bridge pup and want something a bit hotter in the neck anyways, so I'm looking for a pickup for the neck that has more output and is the proper polarity.

Based on that, should I avoid Duncans since they're typically out of phase with Fender pickups? Is that accurate? Does everyone else follow Fender's spec? Always seemed weird to me Duncan does it differently...

Open to suggestions...not sure what I want, just something with enough output to keep up with the bridge. I tend towards vintagey sounds and would want something pretty traditional, though maybe with a bit more mids and fatness (and volume).

Thanks guys!

Mike

Re: Quick tele pickup question (phase related)

If you try a Duncan Vintage Stack for Telecaster, you get the tonal change you desire, noise-cancellation plus the ability to reverse the polarity of the pickup to match the treble pickup.

Actually, historically, it is Fender that switched polarity.

How do you reverse the polarity?

Do other brands (Fralin, Kinman, Dimarzio, etc) play well with Fender, or is everything gonna be phasey with my existing bridge pup?

Thanks!!

Re: Quick tele pickup question (phase related)

I always thought you just swapped the position of where the 2 wires were soldered to stop the OOP effect

Re: Quick tele pickup question (phase related)

My understanding is there is an issue with grounding the cover on a covered tele pup. I know there is a workaround for that, but I'd rather just get something that works as prescribed with my existing bridge pup...maybe thats not possible, but thought I'd look into it...
