Quick wiring question!

Ok I am going to be wiring my strat in a day or two with an SD stag mag neck,a fender Texas Special middle, and an SD TB-4 bridge. Which wires from each pickup should go to my 5-way switch to ensure that they are all in phase.

The reason I ask is because I know fender and SD do something different with their pickups that requires you to switch some wires around as well as the fact that my texas special is made for the neck position and not the middle. Also the stag mag, like the tb-4, is made to be a bridge pickup so I'm thinking that they might conflict some way in the wiring.

So that is why I pose this question. Thanks! Any help is appreciated!

Re: Quick wiring question!

It is very easy to get pickups out of phase. Different manufacture makes it easier. I do not trust color codes because I have found pickups that have the colors incorrect on one but not another. It does happen.

I phase all pickups prior to installation. My way of doing this requires a large screwdriver, two alligator clip test leads and an analog VOM. I have never used digital because the moving needle of an analog meter provides additional info that a digital does not so I can not guarantee it will work correctly.

If you have these parts I will be happy to walk you through the process.

Then trial and error. Wire the SD's the same - they are usually pretty good for maintaining standards and QA. Neck and bridge should not matter.

Then flip the fender wires back and forth until you get the loudest sound when it and one of the SD's is used together.

Not always a first time the charm situation, but it works.
