Quieting a Strat...

Re: Quieting a Strat...

I have done 3 strats with a variation on this mod. i went overkill and used both the paint from stew-mac as well as the copper tape on each instrument. One or the other would have been sufficient but I had time and a desire to work with both techniques so I went for it.

It does wonders but don't expect complete silence. I play in front of PC's monitors recording. Prior to the shielding using anything but the notch positions was out of the question as was any distortion. Now, by simply taking a step back and positioning my self correctly in realationship to the monitor I can do what I need to do. There is still some hum but it is very manageble and outright amazing coinsidering the proximity of noise sources.

Re: Quieting a Strat...

Like the TheArchitect said, don't expect complete silence. I have to say though, in my opinion and many others, the 60 cycle hum is part of the strat but sheilding greatly helps in keeping it quieter. I have my Strat both sheilded and I use a noise gate so when I'm not playing, it's silent and as notes are ringing out, you can barely hear it. Good luck on your mods.
