R0 LP --> Splawn QR + Ceriatone Chupracabra = EARGASM... Mmmmmm...

Brought an R0 Historic LP home on-trial, as well as my music store buddy's 2013 Splawn Quickrod this afternoon. Was flipping back and forth between the QR and the Chupacabra for a bit, but ended-up running them stereo (with a Line 6 M9 in the QR's loop) before long. The tone with my 2001 LP Standard (loaded with 57 Classics) was great (or so I thought).

But once I put that guitar down, and plugged the Duncan Bonamassa-loaded R0... it was instant YUMMAY! The tone was so "woody", lively, and articulate. Made the 57 Classics in my Standard sound muddy and muffled in comparison. I played for three hours. Played along with Def Leppard's "High & Dry", ACDC's "Back In Black", April Wine's "Harder Faster" and "Nature of the Beast", and some various The Darkness and Black Country Communion. This is the LP crunch rock tone that I've been searching-for for all of my years playing classic rock. Sounds just like all of those records, and everything else LP --> Marshall from the 70s and 80s. Such perfection. I've been contemplating getting some Fralin Pure PAFs for my Standard. But dayummm... this Bonamassa-loaded R0 is REALLY tempting me. I'd have to trade my Standard in, and pay a substantial cash difference. But I'm SORELY tempted right now...

Please excuse the crappy cell phone pic. The top on the R0 has got a very nice flame, that looks very understated and not over-the-top "fakey" like so many LPs have any more.

Sweet rig. I know the Historic reissues are a little more woody and airy, but what about just installing some Bonamassa PAF's into your Standard? That's one SD set I've always been interested in, but never bought.......they'd be the most I've ever spent on pickups.

That's the one set I've spent the most on. And I'm still waiting for a guitar to put them in.

I ended up sticking with my Standard. She actually sounded thicker than the R0. 57 Classics sound like mush compared to the Bonamassas though. So I ordered a pair of zebra Fralin Pure PAFs this afternoon. Several weeks ago I was in the store, swapping back and forth between the R0 that I just spent the weekend with, and another Reissue that had Fralins in it. I liked the one with Fralins better. But it was just a customer guitar, so nor for sale. At any rate, I really do like my Standard and hope/expect to be much impressed with the difference once I put the Pure PAFs in there. Now... if I could just put her heavy A$$ on a diet! She's a bit of a heavy pig... :-)

Luckily there are no samples, that description already gassed me enough for buying a QR to put close to my Yeti!

Nice!!! I ran my QR and JCM800 in stereo once and wow! was awesome! My kids said they could hear me 3 blocks away, and I wasnt pushing them too hard either. Yeah, been real curious about the Joe B set since Ive discovered how tasty the WLH set is...
I recently got an epi Les paul tribute plus and it has the 57s in it and Im pretty impressed with them after all the negatives I heard about them
