What type of Jackson are we talking about nogow??
The R3 and R4 are interchangeable as far as I know.
They have the same width, just the string spacing differs, the R3 has narrow string spacing, the R4 has normal string spacing I believe.
The R3 is often used on guitars that have a neck binding.

Exactly as JEM Ghost said, same size but just different string spacing, depending on what kind of string spacing you like

I think R4 is more like Ibanez style wider string spacing, R3 is slightly narrower to give you a feel that's closer to an R2.
