R9 LP advice needed quite urgently ...

Re: R9 LP advice needed quite urgently ...

Thanks guys for your valuable inputs ...

The moment I gotten to the shop, the '96 R9 is sold.
I found out ... these guitars are fast moving and it will never ever be available for more than 1 week,

So sorry about my persistence in asking about opinionated advices about these beauties.
As I mentioned I can't try them out so I rely heavily on reviews, advices, suggestions ...

So thanks for putting up with me

Here is another .. which I've added to my list. MADE in 2006 R9

Whadda ya guys think?
Thanks!

Re: R9 LP advice needed quite urgently ...

I like the top and the colour but it'll have the same issues...zinc tailpiece, classic 57's etc.

Truth is just jump on one of them...if you don't like it R9's are pretty easy to flip right now if you get a good deal but I gotta tell ya...I've yet to play a Historic or VOS that wasn't a good guitar!

Thanks for the advice bro. Still scouting around.
I have yet to lay my hands on one.

Wonder why Zinc tailpiece ... just because its lightweight?

Man, I would've CRIED like a baby if I just saved money for the first guitar and someone bought it. That one still looks like the best one so far to me. If I were you I'd say it is between the 96 and the 06. Leaning a little more towards the 96.

The earliest Historics had what was, at the time tailpiece which was made form zinc...after a few years they made the change to the historically accurate aluminum tailpiece.

If you get an older one with the zinc stop bar switching to aluminum is easy and fast plus many owners have already made the switch.

Bringing up this post again.
Made my purchased recently and thanks to all who have made their recommendations.
That's helped and now it's singing at home with me

Re: R9 LP advice needed quite urgently ...

I like the cherry one better...and I don't even like cherry sunburst as a finish most of the time.

As for the comments about the crap Gibson gets, well...they deserve it. They've turned into a horrible company and an embarrassment to U.S. craftsmanship and business practices. However, that said, their Custom Shop instruments are their one saving grace. They've always been well built. They are what every production-line Gibson should be for the prices they charge. I'd snap up a Historic, Art, and Custom guitar sight unseen, even though I am extremely wary of Gibson's production-line guitars of the past ten to twelve years.

Actually I couldn't agree with u more.
I didn't have a good impression of the mass produced Gibson classic, standard, tradition ... Etc
The custom shop have me a different impression after trying them out.
Price wise is world's apart, but I know what I'm paying for in the end.

The other Gibson beside the one I just purchased is a 2001 1960 reissue LP
