Does anyone know of a good source of information on guitar racks? I am quite intrested it setting one up. Mainly for the fact they are easy to transport (i gig a lot). Any help would be great.

P.S What about an Engl 530 Pre-amp for Slayer, Children of bobom, Early metallica sounds? Any other suggestions would be welcomed.

The Engl will work fine for these sounds, but it specializes in power metal tones, IMO. For that old thrash tone I would use a Marshall JMP-1.

Re: Rack Help

Yeah, i was thinking of a jmp-1 and a 530. What would be a good power amp to compliment these two pre-amps?Also what sort of device (foot switch) could i use to switch between them in stage?

Re: Rack Help

If you're running through a preamp, I don't believe the the end stage power amp is all that important. I currently use a single rack space Marshall, but have also used QSC, Yamaha, Fender, Musicman and ADA, all with pretty much the same results.
You could run an A/B box with the outputs of each preamp and that would allow you to use both preamps. Run the Y send into the power amp.
My current rack system goes from an Audio Technica FM wireless to a DBX 163X compressor, then into a Digitech GSP-5 (yea, it's archaic, but they never really improved much on the original design, in my opinion), split stereo into a BBE Sonic Maximizer then stereo into the Marshall 8008 PA.

The VHT will work nice. :)

Re: Rack Help

Do you leave a rack space above yours for cooling (trying to work out what size case to buy)? Anybody any ideas on the wireless and effects prosessor?

Re: Rack Help

I don't leave a space above the amp for cooling. My own rack is an 8 space, and there's no way to put anything else in it because it's full, but I haven't found any reason to put anything else in it. I personally swear by Digitech, but A.R.T. made some really nice processors and I don't think you can go wrong with a Marshall JMP-1 or a Sans-Amp. As far as wireless goes, I've had wonderful results with Audio Technica 1400 series wireless units.

Re: Rack Help

I don't feel a need to leave a space above it for cooling, it's designed to be in a rack after all.
