I have the Neil Finn and Friends DVD which has Ed O'Brien and Phil Selway from Radiohead playing with them on most of the tracks. Ed O'Brien is sporting a white tele but I'm not sure exactly what it is. He uses a lot of effects and have also seen him with a red archtop/hollowbody style guitar.

most of the wierd noises are from Jonny Greenwood's mutronics mutstor. that thing is wack. his tele is modified tele deluxe from 1991 i think. humbucker put in the bridge, not sure which one. hes got a fender starcaster too. that semi hollow thing. an absolute shedload of pedals.

Greenwood's main axe, which can be seen in the "Creep" music video on MTV (circa summer '93), is a non-trem Tele Deluxe Plus (or Tele Plus since there is no Tremelo system).

Everything on that guitar is stock except for the three way toggle switch, which, when pushed forwards or backwards, mutes the guitar. On the standard axe, the toggle allows you to switch between the front or rear Lace Sensor that is bundled together in a Humbucker format.

I can say this - his tone has less to do with the guitar than his effects and amps. I have an early Telecaster Deluxe Plus (with Tremelo) that I purchased for doing Widespread Panic tunes and I discovered that the guitar in stock format sounds fairly muddy and dull. Mikey's magic came from the SLO 100. Greenwood's "Creep" tone can be had with a clean amp, a Turbo Rat, and Humbucking equipped Tele.

Nonetheless, I will never sell the guitar because of its personal value to me and the rarity of the axe....you don't see too many Blackburst Trem-equipped TDP's anymore.

Re: Radiohead's teles & guitar gear - who knows?

I will add that the stock Tele Plus Deluxe's (TDP) from those days had the following pickup configurations:

1. Blue Lace Sensor (Neck)
2. Dually Red Lace Sensor (Bridge)

Interestingly, I've seen soooo many variations over the years of the the pickup cofigs. in those axes. Here are some various combos that I've seen in the aftermarket:

Bridge Position Lace Humbucker
1. Red / Blue
2. Red / Silver
3. Gold / Gold

I've also seen a H/S/S format (believed to be modded in the aftermarket) that had a Blue (Neck), Silver (Middle) and Dually Red (bridge). The rarity of that guitar fetched $1,500 on E-bay about 18 months ago. Without a doubt, the rarest of those guitars is the Fireburst and Sunburst finishes with Rosewood Fretboard and Tremelo. I've never seen one for sale and I check almost every day.

As such, my Blackburst/Rosewood didn't come from E-bay. I found a guy in Canada that posted a review of the guitar on Harmony Central...after several e-mails, I convinced him that he needed to part with the guitar. (-: Lucky me.
