Radiusing the screw (pole) pieces.

I kind of wish all pickups came with dual adjustable screws, rather than the slugs. Do many of you radius your screw pieces? I notice a difference but it can be a bit maddening.

I especially notice it on the PRS McCarty because the fretboard radius has more of an arc causing the center of the pickup to be much further from the strings than the bass and treble sides.

Here is the weird thing though! Since you can't adjust the front side of the pickup where the slugs reside, aren't you ending up with more of a single coil response? It would be even more exaggerated with covers! No?

Maybe for full on humbucker response, it is best to not radius.

Re: Radiusing the screw (pole) pieces.

I stagger the polepieces on my neck humbuckers much like the stagger on a vintage style strat pickup. Works mildly on humbuckers, but it really works on my Phat Cats. Makes the neck pickup sparkle and chime. :burnout:

i radius mine to the fretboard and it made my 59's sound much clearer with a better sounding midrange. i think it only improves your tone and also i have a tele bridge pickup with the poles radiused almost to the fretboard but it won't be in a guitar til next week. i can't wait to hear how it sounds
