The first upgraded models will hit the streets in the USA next month with our overseas friends getting their upgraded models this summer.

Same great tone. Just a cosmetic tweak.

this might be a silly question, but why arent there clear, close up pictures of the new cosmetics? ... or did i miss them?

There used to be a "bobbin topper, kind of a plastic plate, on the top of the pickup. Sometimes (player -dependent) the high e string would slide under there and lift the "topper" up a bit, notably on Lil Demons,Lil ´59s JBJrs and Duckies. Sometimes it was even enough to fall off or cause buzzing on the strings.

The new ones have a "real cover", If I understood this right, very similar in principle to the classic single coil covers we all know ;)

so.. now everything is a plastic cover as oposed to just masking/duct tape around?

For some reason those new covers for the re-designed rails series look completely sealed, as in you can't remove or replace the cover without trashing the pickup. I hope I am wrong, but it looks like the metal bushing the pickup height screws go into resembles an EMG, which completely seals up the pickup.

One of the things I REALLY like is the redesigned formfactor. now they´ll ALL fit in the neck and middle slots of early Ontario Jackson /Charvels (EMG style routs, no "nose") :32::headbang:

i like the look much better. how long ago was that pic of the pink pickup taken? i hope they aren't making many of those now. that reminds me of growing up in the 80's and all the terrible neon colors all over the place

Evan, does this mean that I can have my current pups upgraded to current spec's, or will I have to buy a new set of pups??

The covers are not backwards compatible. It's true that the new pickups are built-in to the cover and the covers can't be removed.

But same tone. Same price.

It would have been nice to have removable covers that you could change colors depending on which guitar you installed it in, but maybe Dimarzio has a patent on that too... :D
