Re: Randall G3 Series.

I have a G2 which has a great distortion (gain1 is classic, gain2 is modern. They actually sound quite similar but gain2 has way more gain and the overall EQ is boosted) and clean (not a sterile tranny clean, but actually quite a sparkly clean which has a boost function which adds more highs, lows and volume). The G3 version (which I have used in fact) is very similar but instead of being all SS it's hybrid. Same Mosfet poweramp. Only uses the tube as a clipping diode but it still adds warmth as tubes anywhere in the circuit generally do. Isn't very versatile for anything besides metal/hard rock (in which you'll find very versatile. Clean, more clean, gain and more gain!). I have a soundclip of my G2 (on gain1 mode, Randall cab with Vintage 30s).

Here: The G3 is a tad warmer and sounds a little different, but it gives you an idea of how much gain is on this thing considering the gain is on about 6 and it's only on the classic setting.

thats on 6?! dang, what are you using to records?

Re: Randall G3 Series.

a Marshall MXL condensor mic into a Boss mixing board, then into the comp. I didn't do any post editing except for levels. I put the mic on axis close to the speaker.

Whatr pups do you use? And do you run any pedals for boost? There's some sick crunch for it being the 'low' gain mode and on 6.
It does have gain, I've played one G2 which was my ex-teacher. I don't really remember it that well, but it did have a good sound (both distorted and clean too), and hellable amount of drive. The OD1 is more like a Marshall-style and the other is more modern high gain.

Re: Randall G3 Series.

i really really think that im going to end up with a randall. i look into everything else and there not punchy enough, for what i play you need an insane amount of gain, and it seems the only thing out there that doesnt soun digital and is easy to use is either ranall or vox. so ive almost made up my mind
