Randall T2 vs. RM100M

Hi, I'm in the market for an amp. I'm a Randall guy and I know that both SS and Tube have their attractive aspects. I"m looking at a top of the line Randall, but I'm torn between their top Hybrid amp, the T2/V2, and their top All-tube, the Rm100. Doe anybody with experienc eknow in what direction I should go? I alreayd have a cab, a monster 400W Fender MH-412. The T2 would max out my cab, but the RM100 would leave a bit of headroom, as it is 100W. I play drop-tuned 7 string metal, and so if I got the RM100 I would buy these three modules: Recto (mesa low-end chug), XTC (versatile bogner distortion), and Blackface (fender-style clean.) Please don't give other amp suggestions; I'm intent on Randall. Thanks!

Re: Randall T2 vs. RM100M

I'm not sure how the T2 or V2 compare with the modules in the RM series, but my guess is you could find one or more modules that would be more than adequate. Randall has some of their own modules for the RM heads and so they're probably similar in flavour to the T2... just my guess.

Re: Randall T2 vs. RM100M

RM100M all the way - great amp I had one for about a year and traded it for a Mark IV. The only reason I traded was because I also have a Daul Rec and an F-30, there was just too much over lap in tone to justify it staying.

Mods I had:

Randall Clean: Sounded punchy with some sparkle - a great rock/metal clean
XTC: I still miss this sound, very chewy with a enough gain for any application
1086: Sig. Dan Donegan - Very Recto-ish, spongy hi gain with thump and low mids. Very flexible tones due to the mid and gain switches.

Overall I can't say a bad word about, very durable and has the ability to blow a power tube and drive on until you replace it. I actaully had one go and all was well, each power tube has its own circuit and fuse.

Re: Randall T2 vs. RM100M

Hey, thanks for the insight. I've heard from other owners of the RM100M that technical difficulties are abound. I think I'd rather go with reliability than flexibility. The T2 just looks too brutal to pass up, and as a relatively inexperienced musician I don't really want hassles with tubes and such.

Re: Randall T2 vs. RM100M

I have not heard of any "technical" issues with the RM series. In fact, the RM100 was the most reliable amp I had because it can operate with a tube failure. The tone if the RM is far more "brutal" than the T2 (ala Disturbed and Mudvayne - both are RM100 users).

Tube amps are not hassles, they are the reason that guitars sound great when amplified!

You must do what suits you best, but I think a T2 over an RM would be a grave mistake in every respect.

Re: Randall T2 vs. RM100M

The V2 is the best choice i think. The free assignable 6band EQ is a powerfull weapon ,And the Midi thing is really perferct for gigging without buying expensive new midi stuff.

But if you are really in Tube tone ,the V2-T2 has not that much to beat.It sounds like a good tube amp ,but not a very good tube amp!
So the RM can really help you!

Re: Randall T2 vs. RM100M

If I was gonna buy a solid state amp, Randall would be my First choice. But If I were going to buy a Tube amp, Randall is the LAST company I'de be looking at.

They're tube amps aren't bad amps or anything mind you, Its just theres much much better choices from others (At close to, or Better prices).

Re: Randall T2 vs. RM100M

^ yeah what he said, the RM isn't what I would think of when someone says Randall tube head, its on par with big dogs for tubes heads - plus all the MIDI capability.....all this talk really makes me miss my old head, I am going to have to get another one now!

Super cool heads, I have no idea why they are not more popular. Not much competes with them unless you go and get get Mesa, Splawn, Engl, or Bogner (I am sure I left some out, but you get the idea)
