I used an RG head as my main amp for a decade. It sounded great and it never, ever let me down. I can't speak as much for the new ones but THe Warhead stuff is kind of neat and the tube modeling amp they have is as well.
Nothing wrong with Randall at all IMO.

Nothing wrong with randall. I think some people on the forum will automatic turn away from a solid state head because it is in fact solid. I think a few of these people can't actually even tell the difference tonally.

I used to have a Randall RG100SC which i sold and bought a peavey classic. Randalls IMO are the best solid state amps out there at a decent price. The distortion is very thick and agressive sounding. The major downside is that they are prone to having trouble with their Gain 2 stage. Both mine and a friend of mines crapped out... into a great other channel none the less, a great classic blues tone. However, this is still a downside. Also, his actually caught on fire. Some of the old forum guys may remember that, it scorched part of his wall. Of these amps, I would go with the dsl. They sound great are extremely versitile. Id suggest you check out some other amps as well though. There are a ton of great amps to be had for under $1000. Check out a Rivera Chubster 40 combo. If you can find the right price, they flat out rock. Rivera amps can do everything well, from a fender clean, to a marshall drive and then some. The ultimate amp thats not very high priced. Dont be put of that they are PCB, they are well designed, and excellent sounding.

BTW I sold the amp to a friend of mine, who has ahd it for a while now, and gigs with it for his metal band. He has had no issues, and it is sounding great.
Thats my major gripe about the randall aside from reliability problems. The cleans are just way too sterile. They have absolutely no life or anything to them. I didnt have that problem with the overdrive, or any harshness (in a JB loaded strat), but the cleans are sterile as all hell.Hellion said:

I was at a Randall endorsee's house the day a big shipment of free Randall gear arrived. We plugged into a bunch of it. All of it sounded like ass, so he boxed it all back up, sent it back, and decided to keep his Mesa endorsement.

Randalls are pretty bas ass if you don't over EQ it. They also used to make Tube amps in the late eighties and early ninties. I have one, an RGT100 all tube head that I just recently re-tubed.
The Randall Titan was a cool SS head I almost bought awhile back. It had awesome bite and crunch and no staleness.

I would suggest the Randall RM4 along with a RT2/50. I am having my SL+ module modded to a SL++ by Egnater and it should get it in this week. They also did some work on my RM4 too. Bruce and Frank are good people. Bruce said the beauty of the RM4 and RT2 is the reliability. They said they have had almost no problems with them. It is a very very versatile combination. You can get ANY sound you are looking for, and if you don't. Bruce and Frank can modify a module to sound like anything you want it to. My only suggestion would be changing out the tubes. That is what I prefer. For more info you can talk to Hawkman. He is a RM4 user too.
If you are going to go with a Randall solid state. I would suggest the Cyclone. It has the best all around sound for clean and dirty channels. The others are ok, but they don't compare to the Cyclone. I don't know about the new Warhead 2 though. I haven't heard it.

Don't forget about the RT2/50 for a power amp. I wish there were more amps that had the same features as the RT2.
