Re: Rando music SX les paul style guitar??
I know it's not an LP style guitar, but I'll share my experience with the SX line.
I own a Butterscotch SX Tele. It's far exceeded my expectations, and I'm extremely happy with it. It's
at least every bit as good as a higher end Squier.
The body is alder, and rings like a freaking bell. This is one seriously loud guitar acoustically. The frets, and neck, are huge and very playable. I love big frets, but wouldn't mind the neck being a bit smaller.
Sure, the pickups could be better, but they're not bad. They sound pretty good, actually, for what they are. The only thing is that the hardware is pretty crummy. It works, though. I will upgrade the bridge, and tuners, one of these days. Naturally, the nut is on the cheap side, so I'll upgrade that one day too.
Kurt himself has even said that these guitars are purposely built as modding platforms, with cheap hardware, and pickups, with the knowledge that people will mod them to their liking. I forget where I read the interview, but it might be on the Rondo site. Anyway, to that end, they are fantastic and well worth the money.
I also had a TV Yellow Agile LPDC Jr., and it was a fine guitar. If I would have known that they were going to have to change the body style, I would have never sold it. Even the stock P-90 sounded really good.
I think this is the interview I was referring to.
