random hole in my strat.. whats it for?

So when I opened up my strat to see the inside I noticed this hole. I was stumped upon finding this random whole drilled into the body of my guitar. I later found a few pictures with strats that had holes in the same place.. It's not the guide hole. Does anyone have a clue to what this is or what its for? heres a pic.

The one with the red arrow could possibly be the access point for the ground to go to the trem claw. I think that other big one that get covered up by the pickguard is just a reference point/spot for their machines to grab when finishing in the factory.

The srcew with the tab on it is used to connect the sheilding paint they used in the body cavity to ground.

No, just go to Radio Shack or you local auto parts store, get a tab, some wire, and wire it to ground...

Many times it's taken out when someone installs EMG's, which need no grounding

I wonder why my guitar tech took it out then? All he did was put in Fender hot noiseless pickups. Not emgs.

It's not essential. I particularly don't know why they decide to screw the mount there on most guitars. I think it's easier to run a ground wire to the bridge that way.

There is a wire going strait to the bridge. Maybe thats why he took that out? I don't full understand what that tab does though. Do you solder a wire to it and then the tab connects to the paint? or is it just holding down a wire which goes to the bridge?

After researching I still coundl't find an answer to one of my questions. Do you really need the shielding ground wire? Does it make that much of a difference?
