Randy Rhoads Les Paul

Re: Randy Rhoads Les Paul

Can't see the link @ work, but sounds like a Steve Jones model minus stickers, plus pup covers...same higher price.....

Re: Randy Rhoads Les Paul

Gibson are evil. The proved that when they sued Warwick

If they made it to the better 1974 spec people might wonder why they have to pay so much for a modern guitar with a design flaw.

Re: Randy Rhoads Les Paul

it's really stupid to complain about Gibson.

a normal white LPC costs $4000 easily...a signature model with a bunch of collectible crap that will get more valuable over time is of course going to cost more.

but if you buy one and keep everything mint and wait 20 years or so you can probably resell it for a profit...and have a really cool guitar in the mean time.

if you're a serious player and you want Les Paul tone, do what i did and find somebody trying to get rid of an old one. Not a vintage one...an old one. I scored my Les Paul Custom for less than a brand new Les Paul Traditional would be...

design flaw? which flaw is that...the neck that's really comfortable and easy to play, or the definition of rock-n-roll tone...? is it the lack of the Floyd?

The head angle is too sharp and the truss rod pocket too large which creates a weak spot. When they used a shallower angle and the voult (as on the guitar Randy played) it cured the problem but vintage freaks moaned so they reverted back to the original flawed design.
Personally I think you are better off these days with a Ibanez of ESP and a matched pair of SD pickups.

weak spot? dude the entire neck on most Ibanez guitars is one gigantic weak spot.

if you want an ultra-modern thin-neck turbo-output pickup guitar then, yeah, you're better off with something from Japan.

if you want Les Paul tone you're better off with a Les Paul.

If you want Les Paul tone and build quality worth the price you buy a PRS.
The Ibanez Les Paul lookalike is very good for that sort of guitar and has a good neck. Want a better neck than a Les Paul at half the cost Godin. If you get over the brand name then there are a lot of guitars that do the job better than a Gibson.

Re: Randy Rhoads Les Paul

I've never played a PRS or an Ibanez that played anything like a Les Paul -- sorry dude, they're not the same thing.

They're not bad guitars by a long shot but they're not built the same way or to the same specs as a proper Gibson Les Paul.

Neck carve and shape have a lot to do with it...finish material too. I can definitely hear and feel a difference between a poly finish and a nitro finish and i like my guitars to breathe.

i'm not tryin to be contentious and i'm not saying PRS or Ibanez are bad guitars, but I prefer the sound and feel of Gibsons and i think it's funny to see people get worked up about them.

Re: Randy Rhoads Les Paul

Hey John......:laughing:guess that's why Joey Santiago played PRS, Ibenez, & ESP, huh?!?!:joke:

He does play a McCarty with The Martinis at times. Most of his are 70's (his original one was a loan from Kim) his 345 is a '77. The classic era Gold Top had a set of Seymour's in. The guitar he used on the Lare show had SD logos on the pups.

Man, I agreed with EVERYTHING you said until you said "Japan". Navigator, in the eyes of most people, makes better LPs than Gibson CS does. It's not like they only build "ultra-modern thin-neck turbo-ouput pickup" guitars.

That said, let the haters hate and the lovers love. Why bother?

nice! got me there!

I only saw him a bunch of times, a while ago, when he still had hair! (so I never saw the McCarty):friday:

Re: Randy Rhoads Les Paul

Seems silly when you consider you could buy two nice '70's LPCs for what thing will cost.

Re: Randy Rhoads Les Paul

Did anybody notice that Blabbermouth said it was somehow unveiled at winter NAMM when Gibson didn't even have a booth? I may have missed it, but all I noticed was them tossing the new R0 reissues in with the epi booth.

Re: Randy Rhoads Les Paul

no, the article said jackson released a rhoads tribute RR/concorde V at winter NAMM. which they did.

Re: Randy Rhoads Les Paul

I need to learn to read. Regardless, I love my Norlins. Thus, I'd rather just pick up a beat old white LPC than pay out the arse for a new one that probably doesn't even have a volute or pancake lol.
