Re: Randy Rhoads?
Dudes,
Fire Inventor and a few others whose names I am too lazy to hit the "back" button to find nailed it....it's the MXR Distortion + pedal that will nail Rhodes' tone. Seriously, you could be playing an ES-335 into a Fender Twin with Ibanez V8's :eek13: and turn on the pedal, there it is...nasty, blistering midrange fuzz. Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating--just a bit. A Marshall and a Flying V with high-output ceramics would help. And I bow in deference to those who saw him live; I only refer to his studio tone.
I utterly dislike the sound of the D+, I wrote a really scathing review of it on Harmony Central (as Anonymous), something about hordes of screaming bees, stopping the nightmares, yada yada. And I discovered this by accident, of course; I wasn't trying to sound like RR's studio tone; I was just trying to sound good...but to me, it's Rhodes in A Box.
