Hello at all, I was asking me, what's the range in wich is convenient to move pickups height?
I mean what's the max and min distances from the strings?
Can you post meausures in centimeters please? :D

Thanks at all!

Re: range to move pickup's height

millimeters is probably better...
anywhere from about 3-8 mm probably, but take that with a grain of salt. it's within it's range when you think it's best. i personally like to lower the pickup to about 1.5 cm and grab the screw to raise and lower in real time, then set the screw where i like it.

Yes! Also, trust your ears for the 'sweet spot'.

Jimmy87:
Pup TOO high = intonation problems, damped sound, strange dissonant harmonics (Wolf-tones)
Pup High = louder and brighter
Pup Low = quieter and more mellow

My personal choice is to move the pup as far away from the string as possible and then bring it up listening for the tone and volume changes. As soon as a bad change is audible, drop it back a little and there you are. Sweet spot. But MY sweet spot.....

But there is no height in mm or inches that will do it universally.....
My Sheraton came with high pups the seller loved - he played lead-lines 90% of the time and quiet chords. The rather dirty (dis)harmonic structure gave the lead sound a lot of character and he loved it.
My playing - involving diads and triads and quite hard attack about 50%/50% with lead-lines sounded dreadful. Real ugly gravel sounds on the chords..... the guys here pointed me in the right direction, and I lowered the pups with enormous benefit. Marginally quieter - but a real nice chord sound and still enough bite for lead work.

Like Thunder said..... use your ears (not a durned ruler).
