Raphs Sabre Sensation!

This is the first guitar i refinished. It's loaded with 3 dimarzios a super distortion, tone zone and a air norton in the neck. 3 on/off toggles and a push pull that splits the neck and middle into singles. Replaced the original trem with a cosmo black gotoh. I also purchased a aftermarket big brass block.

Re: Raphs Sabre Sensation!

My buddy had a red one it was bad arse. Thin but felt great.

Is that a crack on the back through the body or just paint?

Re: Raphs Sabre Sensation!

I love sabres, they are currently my fav body design. I dig this colour too.

Re: Raphs Sabre Sensation!

Cool! I have a Sabre that is a blah purple metallic color that I've wanted to refinish ever since I got it. The trem is a POS, too, but the rest of the guitar is pretty good. It's in the queue...

Re: Raphs Sabre Sensation!

I wouldn't mind getting a hardtail version also.
Anyone at all curious about the modified 5way switch cover,,,,, hehe My only regrets with this was that i didnt look harder to find a micro push pull that could have fit in the tone pot position. That way i could have split the neck and middle independently. It would have given it a even larger range of tones. I guess now i think about it the wiring design is quite strange but it works well.

Re: Raphs Sabre Sensation!

tone zone, norton and super D? sweet!

how is the GOTOH working out? I've had many gotoh products on my guitars and they're always worked well.

Yes its fully loaded with 3 of my favourite dimarzio pups, As for the gotoh its perfect no complaints

Re: Raphs Sabre Sensation!

No one noticed my creme colored micro toggle switch tips either. For anyone who would like to know how to get any color tip you want on any switch, All you need is some heat-shrink, stick it on run the lighter on it trim it up and they look mint. They also have a rubbery feel which is also a bit rad if you ask me.

I had one of my S-series re-finished in gold. But this ain't my doing, someone did it for me, he works in a car garage. So it's car paint in there, it's not a regular guitar paint.

Re: Raphs Sabre Sensation!

Hmm, when I saw the pics I thought MIK straight away because of the TRS route. I think mid-90s MIJ Ss only came with Lo Pro. I know there's guitars like the RG470 which, though MIJ, had a Lo TRS in the mid-late 90s, but I think that was an exception.

Anyway, going to a Gotoh is the only logical thing :). Neat switch tip condom trick.

The only S I've played was like the red one here. Pretty guitar but it looked better than it played/sounded. Those INF pups didn't do it any favours.

Mine is a mij its printed on the back of the headstock serial F347550 made in japan. I think it had a Ibanez Lo Trs Tremolo made in Japan by TAKEUCHI? which although is crap i dont think there as bad as other cheaper trems. My mate has a korean one i modified midi gear into and although the quality is good its not as good as the mij.

It just suddenly occurred to me that the serial is not from a 96 its actually a 93 oooooops. I know for a fact i am the second owner of this guitar. But i cant match it up to any in the catalog from 93?

As for the condom trick i think its a winner

Could be a Japan only. Ibanez did and continues to make quite a few variants of models that are not available elsewhere.

Aye, F3xxxxx would be would be 1993. They changed the serials around 1994-95 or something so the first two digits denoted the year.

There's the Lo TRS and the Lo TRS II. The former is a MIJ trem, put on the RG470s I mentioned; The saddles are a little different and it has a screw-in arm, whereas the II has the pin and collar arrangement. They get discussed here: http://www.jemsite.com/articles-menu/tremolo-bridges/.

Yeah, that red 470 I played was MIK - with a new trem and pups it probably would've been quite good.

I actually worked it out with the help from a few jemsite members, Its a 93 model neck that has a 94 body this explains the no s series stamped on the headstock and the trs, the neck must have been excess stock from 93. Apparently this was a common thing for ibanez to do in the 90's

That makes sense. They did it in the 80s too - e.g. '86 spec. guitars with November/December '85 serials. Then there's the occasional funky model in the first part of '87 which has the modern goosebeak headstock with F7xxxxx serial, but older Roadstar body.
