Re: Rare boss pedals...
Yep, the SG-1 slow gear (attack delay) is a triggered reverse envelope thing, there is a company that makes a half way descent clone of it, Guyatone I think. The rarest BOSSes are the SP-1 Spectrum (Have that),it's a resonant filter, sorta like a stuck in the middle, but more flexible), the PH-1 ... No R (have that, nothing special about that, it's like the PH-1R phaser, they just added the resonance control, and made the circuit a bit quieter).
As a CS-1 Compreesion Sustainer (had the mode switch), the holy grail on those are the ones that had the original *momentary LED circuit*, like the SP-1, and first edition SG-1's (I don't remember if the SP-1 stayed around long enough to get the second LED circuit, the TW-1 TWah, and inductor based touch wah, any of the old CE-2 choruses are highly prized, along with the original CE-1 Chorus Ensemble and BF-1 Flanger ... they weren't in the compact line as it hadn't been started yet, the OD-1 overdrive if you snake an old MIJ one, of course the DM-2 delays, the mono version of the DM-3 delays. The VB-2 Vibrato was kind cool, real pitch vibrato, not reall useful for an all the time effect but still cool for vibratoing entire chords on guiatrs without vibrato bridges of keys without vibrato ... cool unlatch mode, and rise time mode. That's about all I can think of, cool to have but not worth paying thru the nose for from an ebay crook.
As far as the SG-1, the SP-1, and some others, they weren't really made for guitar use, they just kinda developed the following ... think about it, how could you get a Fender Rhodes to sound more like a synth, SG-1 to do cool dynamically controlled reverse fades, and the SP-1 to twist the harmonics around a bit, then add the PH-1 and TW-1 and you could fake a lot of early snyth parts with make do sounds ... crafty guys at Roland ...beware the 1st edition pedals, often need the input impedance changed from 220k to 470k or 1Meg.
