I think the tone could be better served overall if your picking attack had more strength and immediacy... the technique here sounds too soft and too tentative. I'll give the actual tone a 7 though.

+1. Although it sounds more like you're noodling around rather than playing an entire song, which could account for the tentative feeling. The actual tone of the setup seems nice though. Numbered rating? :dunno:
Don't be afraid to. Picking hard can produce some cool tones/overtone that wouldn't be brought out in the instrument otherwise. I was actually noodling around on a Stevie Wonder tune the other day, popping the bass notes with my index finger - pulling up from underneath he string and then letting the string slide off my finger and slap back onto the fretboard, like the bass technique - and getting some rad tones.
