Rattling Grillcloth

I discovered my Bogner Shiva combo has a rattling grillcloth problem at high volume that sounds pretty bad.
I should email Bogner, cause Im not sure if the baffle can removed to stretch and restable the cloth.
Not sure why im posting this, just maybe see if someone has any similar issues , and if they had to end up getting a new front grillcloth, or something .

Re: Rattling Grillcloth

You should be able to remove the grill cloth frame from the front or from the back. If it's from the back, I'd make sure all those screws are tight first. If it's from the front, I'd make sure all your velcro tabs are firmly connected. In either case, you could install some adhesive-backed foam or felt strips around the perimeter.

Re: Rattling Grillcloth

you tell me. Actully, its a very bad issue. Amp is unplayable at high volume.. Ive checked speaker, its okay, and tightened down all cabinet, speaker , and baffle screws.
I mean, I can play it thru an external cabinet, but I want to fix it.
I am going to phone Bogner Amps and see what they may have to say about it.;

( Damn camera mic barely gets any of the terrible cabinet grillcloth flapping sound)

Re: Rattling Grillcloth

Bogner has their cabs done by a subcontractor, so the guys at the factory may not be able to help much with an older used Bogner.

I'd suggest trying to see how it can be dampened with your hand while playing, then pull the whole thing apart and get to the bottom of it. I've never heard of rattling grill cloth; only the connective parts.

Re: Rattling Grillcloth

Rattles and buzzing can be a real pain to sort out and when you have such an awesome amp it must be a real pisser. Are you sure it's the grille Jerry? One of my mates had a similar problem with his Carvin and the problem was that someone had over tightened one of the speakers and crushed the foam gasket so the frame was against the baffle. Hope you get it sorted.

Re: Rattling Grillcloth

A hair dryer will heat up the plastic grill cloth, shrink it a little and tighten it up.

DON'T GET CARRIED AWAY AND BURN IT!

How does something soft and pliable "rattle"?
Likely it's the speaker closest to where you hear the problem. Bent frame, over tightened, loose voice coil. These things usually become much more apparent at higher volume.

Re: Rattling Grillcloth

Are you sure it's not all the stuff on the shelf directly behind the amp that's rattling? Stomp boxes, like...say...a tuner pedal, will rattle like crazy if they aren't plugged in.

It "rattles", for lack of a better word, cuase the speaker air is making the loose fabric flap around violently.
I'm almost certain its the grillcloth. When I hold my hand on the grillcloth , then press in and play, the rattling stops. This must mean the speaker/gasket is okay. I might see if I can find someone to stretch it and restaple . Hate to remove the baffle though, if the baffle is removeable at all..that might introduce cabinet noise which would be even worse.
I played it through my 2x12 Lynch Eminence cabinet.there was no rattle, and it sounded huge and punchy as hell, but the cleans werent as nice as the Bogner Cabinet with the Celstion.
And yeah, I need to strat using those electronic tuners I bought.

Duct tape an old sweatsock to the grill.

Something don't sound right with that amp in the vid. Not just a rattle.

Re: Rattling Grillcloth

To be honest...it sounds like a speaker flapping badly!

Agreed.

That is in no way the way that amp should sound. Something is not right beyond a grillcloth. Try setting every knob to 12:00 and see how it sounds. Maybe a little less Gain, more like 10:00. The boosted dirty channel should sound good at those settings and then adjust to taste.
