Rawest tubes available....

I was wondering what the fattest, rawest, most powerful tubes are that are out there. I've heard that 5881's are pretty meaty and thats what Kranks use. I've heard them and they sound good, just never been able to try them. Will I really notice that big of a difference switching from EL34's or 6L6s? That and can my JCM 2000 or Triple Rec be rebiased to use anything other than EL34s or 6L6s? Just curious as to what I can do to get the most ferocious and heavy tone out of my amps with out just going for the overly compressed gain from a pedal.

In your amp, I'd go for JJ E-34L's, which are EL-34's that are about 10% hotter.
3 GT12AX7C's will get the preamp hot, tight, and focused.

I don't think you can use anything but EL-34's or E-34L's in your amp. The amp would need costly mods to use 6L6 or 5881, and the sound wouldn't get better, it'd get worse, since Marshalls are designed around the EL-34.

I think the Mesa Triple Rec has a bias switch, so you can use either. I still think highgain channel switching amps sound best with GT12AX7C's.

'fat', 'raw', and 'powerful' are not necessarily things that go together when it comes to power tubes...
